Kirtan

Somebody asked Guru Nanak, “Why is a musician always with you?”

And Guru Nanak answered, “The instrument he’s playing brings music to my words. For those who have trouble hearing them, the trouble melts into the melody of the words which are sent to me by God. He is not just playing the instrument; he is the instrument for reaching my words to people.”

Kirtan, the devotional singing of shabads, is a major part of our Gurdwara services which are held on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. and on the first Friday of each month at  7:00 p.m.  The sacred sound current of kirtan uplifts the hearts and minds of all who hear it.  Kirtan programs feature musicians from the Guru Ram Das Ashram community as well as guest ragis visiting from New England area Gurdwaras and Gurdwaras around the world.  On First Fridays and at our Gurpurb celebrations we enjoy kirtan sung by musicians and sangat members of our neighbor Gurdwara in Milford, Massachusetts, and by their children who are being trained through the Gurmat Sangeet Project.

Everyone is welcome to visit the ashram to experience music that connects the soul to the divine.  We welcome new musicians to our Gurdwara.  To participate in kirtan, please contact Harbhajan Kaur Khalsa
